Peinture fraîche! | Wet paint! |
We're well into August and the work carries on, albeit at a much slower pace as Stephen is still busy at the campsite until the end of the month. The new render has been painted a nice shade of cream and we're now moving onto the wooden shutters which will be...did you guess it?...green, of course! This is quite a tedious job - sanding, wiping, painting and back to the start again for the next coats. Elliot's is really enjoying it though and often displays a very fetching green camouflage look (we're just sorry we cannot train him to wag his green tail on the wood to speed the process up!).
The weather has cooled down a little lately and rain has replaced the warm sunshine we had been enjoying since June. Hopefully this will not last too long as there is plenty for us to do outdoors - creosoting the front fencing panels and path logs, painting the front of the house and, as volunteers are yet to come forward (!), the same gravel mount to shift... Luckily this did not spoil last weekend's Fete du Lac - an annual celebration on the shores of the Jaunay lake with an amazing fireworks finale.
This time next year, we may be able to make even more of our wonderful surroundings and join the holidaymakers we see cycling past on the path, heading out on one of the many nature trails or even on their way to the beach, just over an hour away by bike as Stephen found out last week (but that was all in the name of market research you understand!).
